Campanula Campanulaceae Regular deadheading often brings a second flush of flowers later in summer. Canna Cannaceae Lift the rhizomes after the first frost and store them dry at 5–10 °C. Celosia Amaranthaceae Cold-sensitive – plant out only after mid-May and avoid waterlogging. Chrysanthemum Asteraceae A short-day autumn bloomer; pinch the shoots until July for a bushy shape. Clematis Ranunculaceae Follow “head in the sun, feet in the shade”: shade its base with perennials or stones. Convallaria Asparagaceae It spreads quickly in shade – use a root barrier to keep it in check. Coreopsis Asteraceae Shear it back by a third after flowering and it reblooms in a few weeks. Cosmos Asteraceae It flowers better in poor soil – don't feed it or you'll get mostly leaves. Crocosmia Iridaceae In colder areas mulch the corms thickly in autumn. Crocus Iridaceae Let the foliage yellow fully before mowing the grass over the corms. Cyclamen Primulaceae Flowers longest when cool (12–16 °C); water from below and keep the tuber dry.
