Coelogyne Orchidaceae Without a cool (5–10 °C), drier winter rest it won't flower. Coffea Rubiaceae Use lime-free water and avoid harsh sun; from 3–4 years old it can flower and fruit. Coleus Lamiaceae Pinch out the flower spikes – after flowering the leaf colours fade and the plant ages. Colocasia Araceae It drinks and feeds heavily in summer; store the tuber dry at 10–15 °C in winter. Columnea Gesneriaceae Keep it near 15 °C with less water for 4–6 weeks in winter to boost flowering. Conophytum Aizoaceae Summer-dormant: keep it dry and lightly shaded in summer; it grows from autumn to spring. Convallaria Asparagaceae It spreads quickly in shade – use a root barrier to keep it in check. Copiapoa Cactaceae Extremely slow with sensitive roots – err on the side of too little water. Cordyline Asparagaceae Brown leaf tips signal dry air or too much fluoride – water with rainwater. Coreopsis Asteraceae Shear it back by a third after flowering and it reblooms in a few weeks. Coriandrum Apiaceae It bolts fast in heat – sow again every 2–3 weeks and give it part shade in summer. Cornus Cornaceae On coloured-stem kinds remove the oldest stems in spring – young stems colour best. Coryphantha Cactaceae Flowers emerge from new tubercles at the crown – only well-ripened, sun-grown plants bloom. Cosmos Asteraceae It flowers better in poor soil – don't feed it or you'll get mostly leaves. Cotoneaster Rosaceae Superb as bonsai – its tiny leaves and red berries stay in proportion at small size. Cotyledon Crassulaceae Don't wipe off the powdery wax on the leaves – it protects them from sunburn. Crassula Crassulaceae The jade plant flowers in winter after a cool (10–15 °C), dry autumn.
